Bachelor´s degree in Packaging Technology

More information on the course of study

The course of study in Packaging Technology in Munich is very technically oriented and specialises in the two most important raw materials used in packaging: paper and plastic. The teaching will cover the entire process from the manufacturing of raw materials and the packaging production to mechanical packing. Lectures will be accompanied by numerous practical exercises in the university’s well-equipped laboratory.

The foundations for the subject-specific lectures in the higher semesters will be laid in the first two semesters with lectures in mathematics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanics and construction as well as material and energy transport. In order to give students a first overview of what they can expect in later semesters, an additional introduction lecture about Paper and Packaging Technology is offered.

The packaging-specific lectures in fibre-based packaging (i.e. packaging made from paper, cardboard, solid and corrugated board), plastics technology, surface finishing, packaging technology I and II (CAD lab class, packaging construction and design, package testing), adhesive technology, flexible packaging and packaging material testing begin in the 3rd semester. Measurement, control and regulation is taught in the 3rd semester as a further basic subject.

In the 5th semester, an industrial internship is completed to provide students with an insight into companies in the packaging industry. The professors in the course of study have very good industry contacts and are helpful in the search for interesting internships.

Only elective subjects are placed in the 6th semester so that students can also complete these abroad.

Following a further elective subject and the lectures in quality management and printing on packaging in the 7th semester, it is finally time for the Bachelor's dissertation. This will be completed over a period of three months – in most cases in an industrial company.
